Substance Abuse

Our Goal at Oasis

At Oasis, our goal is to help college students understand the real dangers of substance use, particularly alcohol, and guide them toward eliminating harmful habits. Substances not only pose significant addiction risks but can also harm the developing brain during these crucial years. While we know it’s impossible to completely stop students from drinking, we aim to help them build a healthier relationship with alcohol. Our focus is on resisting peer pressure, prioritizing education and future goals over partying, and learning not to rely on alcohol as a coping mechanism for sadness or stress. We remind students that alcohol enhances the emotions they’re already feeling—so why not enjoy it when you’re truly happy? Oasis is here to empower students to make better choices and live their best, most balanced lives.

In 2022, nearly 29% of college students engaged in binge drinking within the past month—defined as consuming five or more drinks for males or four or more drinks for females within a two-hour period. Binge drinking remains a common but dangerous behavior on campuses.
